Lami Technologies Limited (“LAMI”) is a technology company based in Nairobi, Kenya whose mission is to democratise insurance by digitising insurance policies.

This Privacy Notice describes how Lami collects and processes your personal information through its web application and website located at https://partners.lami.world/sign-in, https://www.lami.world and other online platforms owned and controlled by Lami.

This Notice explains the options available to you when you provide us with your personal information or access and use our services.

Lami only processes what is necessary and deletes it when it is no longer necessary. This information includes the collection of unique online identifiers such as Device IDs, which are the numbers that uniquely identify a specific computer or other network devices. PART 4: WHY WE COLLECT INFORMATION

Lami uses data to provide insurance services, customer after-sale care and support, and other products and services. We also use data:

  • To maintain our services
  • To notify you about changes to our services
  • To provide analysis or valuable information so that we can improve the services
  • To monitor the usage of the services
  • To detect, prevent and address technical issues
  • To provide you with information and recommend to you our services that align with your interests and needs

PART 5: WHAT WE DO WITH DATA

Our communication with you is based on your relationship with us. If you are a client, our communication aims to fulfil contractual obligations and ensure client satisfaction. As a prospective client, we reach out to respond to your queries and showcase our services and products.

PART 6: LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING DATA

We will only process your data where we have a legal basis to do so. The legal basis will depend on the purposes for which we have collected and used your data. In a typical case the legal basis will be one of the following:

  • This would apply where Lami will need to take steps prior to entering into a contract with you. For example, where you have purchased an insurance policy from us and we need to use your contact details and payment information to process your policy and send the requisite documentation to you.

  • Consent:
  • We would rely on consent as a lawful basis in instances where you have provided consent to receive marketing from us. If we have to use consent as a lawful basis, we will provide you with a consent request.

  • Legitimate business interests
  • Where it is necessary for us to understand our customers, promote our services and operate effectively, this will be done in a legitimate way which does not unduly affect your privacy and other rights. For example; Delivering, developing and improving our website, detection and prevention of fraud and improvement of security.

PART 7:DISCLOSURE TO THIRD PARTIES

Lami does not share your personal information with individuals, companies, organisations or any other entity. However, where it is necessary to conduct our business such as processing claims or disputes or is required by law or as otherwise agreed by you with your consent, these are the exceptional cases when we will disclose your data:

  2. Lami may disclose some of your information when and if we believe it’s required by applicable law, regulation, operating license or agreement, legal process or governmental request, insurance policy, or where the disclosure is otherwise appropriate due to safety or similar concerns.

  4. provide our services for example maintenance, analysis, payments, marketing and development. These service providers will have access to your information as reasonably necessary to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for other purposes. These service providers include:

PART 8:KEEPING YOUR INFORMATION SAFE

We employ administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards to avoid unauthorised access to your personal information.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific task (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information.

Despite these safeguards in place, we cannot completely guarantee the security of any information you transmit via online channels, as the internet is not an entirely secure place and therefore you transmit such information at your own risk.

PART 9: RETENTION OF DATA

The retention of your data will be dependent on the duration of our relationship, the data type, the purposes for which we collected the data, and whether the data must be retained after an account deletion request.

For example, we retain data:

  • for the life of users’ accounts if such data is necessary to provide our services. E.g., account data.
  • for 7 years if necessary to comply with tax requirements.
  • for defined periods as necessary for purposes of safety or fraud prevention.

We may use third-party service providers to monitor and analyse the use of our website and our services.

  • Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our services. This data is shared with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualize and personalise the ads of its own advertising network.

At Lami we use cookies to understand how our site is used which helps us to improve your overall online experience. Some of the cookies we use are necessary for some of our sites to work whilst other cookies are used to provide tailored advertising by trusted third parties.

As per the Data Protection Act, No.24 of 2019, the following are your data rights:

  • the right to rectify or amend inaccurate or incomplete personal data;
  • the right to object to the processing of your personal data if there is compelling legitimate ground to do so and to the extent permitted by law or regulation.

PART 9: CHANGES TO THIS NOTICE

As Lami develops and subsequently reviews its data protection practices in the process, we may need to update this policy. As such, Lami reserves the right to amend this policy from time to time. However, no matter what we change, we will always maintain our commitment to protecting your privacy. We will post all revisions, along with their effective dates. This may be done by sending you a notification that the Notice has been updated or by indicating at the top of this privacy notice when it was most recently updated.
